Things have slowed down a bit, but here’s what’s coming in to the newsroom:
Making History With Stem Cells: Jewish and U of L are actually doing something together. Tomorrow they’ll put on a show announcing the first cardiac adult stem cell infusion procedure performed at Jewish Friday. The procedure is part of the first FDA-approved clinical trial using adult cardiac stem cells to treat heart disease. Docs from U of L and Jewish will speak at a press conference.
Look Out Jack and Dan: Local businessman Maurice Sweeney is joining in the Democratic primary for Jim Bunning’s U.S. Senate seat. A former president of the local NAACP, Sweeney said today he wants to be the first African-American elected to the Senate from Kentucky. He won’t be. [Courier]
Another Player in the JCPS student-assignment lawsuit: The parent of a Chinese girl denied admission to Stopher Elementary has joined Teddy Gordon’s lawsuit against Sheldon Berman and JCPS after she was denied admission because of race. You get the feeling this won’t be the last one.
New Food Content: If you haven’t been over to Ville Voice Eats lately, check it out. [Eats]
To Report, Or Not to Report: ESPN’s getting some heat for its decision to prohibit reporting on Ben Roethlisberger’s legal issues, which is kind of hilarious. Here’s why: The network says it won’t report anything about Big Ben until charges are filed, as if they’re some sort of bastion of journalistic integrity. Meanwhile, they’ll go with a rumor from an unnamed equipment manager on the status of a college coach.
Party On Us: Well, taxpayers, are we really getting a good value by paying for our state legislators to travel to Philadelphia for some conference? And then to learn most don’t even show for the meetings in which they were going to maybe learn something. Outrage is the appropriate emotion. [Page One]
Still Cutting Ribbons: Is Jerry Abramson going to continue this press conference thing around town now that he’s a lame duck? Yes. Tomorrow he’ll be at Chenoweth Elementary to talk about how federal money has put people to work.
120 out of 120: Every county in Kentucky has experienced an increase in unemployment in the last year. Your leader is Magoffin County at 18.8 percent, with Fayette County checking in with the lowest at 8.5.
Tasered in Court: All the media is showing the video of this guy who got tasered in court after turning over a table. Not smart. [Courier]

Will someone please ask Jerry if he simply pulls stimulus job totals out of his ass? It could even be humorous if phrased a certain way, I suppose.

Jerry and his Council of Rubber Stamps have lost 20K to 30K worth of jobs over the last 25 years. This trend has been going on since somewhere in the 1980s. The stimulus job totals are not there because this stimulus hasn’t created anything but more debt. These people in local government are an embarrassment to this community and its time for a lot of them to be working at your local fast food restaurant.

The JCPS lawsuits will continue and we’ll eventually go back to neighborhood schools with no choice.
