Is this ever a week for embarrassing behavior. If you’re following this jail story, you know that two high-ranking Corrections employees were fired after they lied to their boss about the whereabouts of another employee who was evading a warrant for beating his wife.
It may not be on the scale of turning up drunk sleeping in a garbage can, or disappearing for a week for a romantic rendezvous in another country, but it’s still pretty good.
But in the fallout and open records information that has come out, we learn that Maj. Robert Dietz and Deputy Director Laura McKune had a late-night texting habit and delighted in calling their boss, Chief Mark Bolton, a bozo.
Lesson learned: Don’t use your work phone for personal texting.
“Will see if you are a good girl. Very drunk. Thinking of u. Sweetheart.” That’s a message sent from Dietz to McKune in April revealed at WHAS-TV. There’s more in the C-J.
And it’s not at the heart of the story. But it’s entertaining, and certainly not going to help the lawsuit Dietz and McCune have filed for wrongful dismissal. Meanwhile, Bolton is getting 24-hour protection and, though he hasn’t accused Dietz or McKune of making the threats that led to the protection, you can figure out what’s going on.
