You’ve probably read that Corrections Chief Mark Bolton, who is making some dramatic changes at the jail and recently fired two of his top managers, has been the target of threats since back in March.

Bolton has found the lugnuts loosened on this city vehicle, and his tires have been slashed. He’s gotten plenty of advice about what might happen to him if he doesn’t do certain things through e-mails and phone calls. So the city is taking steps to protect him.

Given the threat to Bolton’s safety, it got us to thinkin’ and rememberin’ and wonderin’. So we looked it up and found our report that on Feb. 25 Bolton was hit by a car exiting a downtown garage. He escaped with bumps and bruises, and the lady driving the car wasn’t charged. But how many people get hit by cars walking around downtown? Just askin’, but maybe somebody was sending the jail director a message.
