They passed a $17 million budget at last night’s Jeffersontown City Council meeting. According to Ray Perkins, the new council member who opposed many parts of the budget, it was business as usual. Here’s a comment he left here on the site:
They did it again. Business as usual in Jeffersontown. Priorities here are all screwed up. They continue to make excuses why things can’t get done. Unless people vote out the old guard, things will never change here. I’ve done my best to show them a better way, but special interest seem to have the other council members ear. I promise to continue to be the voice of reason; make positives changes where ever I can. :-)
The budget includes a mere $20,000 surplus, which seems risky considering it includes anticipated revenue of $1.65 million from an insurance premium tax the city has never collected before. And it includes a savings of $350,000 it hopes to realize by cutting back on garbage collection.
Perkins and Bill Dieruf, a candidate for Mayor in 2010, argued that more cuts should have been considered. Yesterday, Perkins said the city should consider personnel cuts in the economic development department, the museum and the senior citizens center.

What do they do with all of that money? I moved my office from the Bluegrass Industrial Park to Middletown to get away from the payroll and other taxes. By moving, I gave every one of my employees a raise.
I have very high insurance costs (E&O etc.) so I am really glad I got out when I did. I’m surprised more businesses don’t move out of Jeffersontown and the Industrial Park for less taxed pastures.

Dear Chubby,
It’s going to take more than a couple seat changes on the council to correct the ineffectiveness that we are use to. It’s going to take a clean sweep of all those who served with Foreman when he was on the council, including Ruchriegel.
Why would a mayor or councilman not want to save money on garbage collection? Something is fishy.

Sounds like Louisville in general run by crooks and good old boys just like the clowns downtown. No wonder the city is sinking in economics because of the corruption and excess taxation

MarkH: GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT. IF YOU GAVE YOUR EMPLOYEES A RAISE THATS GREAT. MAYBE THEY DESERVE IT. BUT THE TAX DOES NOT IMPACT THE BUSINESS AT ALL FROM WHAT I READ. SO HOW DID YOUR EMPLOYEE TAKE IT WHEN YOU LIED TO THEM ABOUT A RAISE?????
