It’s Local Emmy Awards Season

And the nominees are…

The National Academy of Television Arts and Scienes puts on what must be the most extensive awards for the local television industry.  In dozens of categories, stations from 13 markets in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia compete for the prestigious awards.

As we always say on these awards programs, though, the winners are often the ones best at compiling awards entries. But organizers say that they received a record 588 nominations from 40 organizations.

That disclaimer said, our four local stations have been busy. In the nominations just released today, WHAS leads the way with 20, followed by WLKY with 13, WAVE with 8 and Fox41 with 6.

Individually, nominees for Best Anchor included both WHAS-TV’s Rachel Platt and Melissa Swan, and the station’s weatherman, Monty Webb, is up for an individual award. No nominees from the area for sports or reporter, though several stories done by locals were nominated.

As usual, WLKY’s John Boel had a bunch of nominations for various pieces. Others up for awards from WLKY include Ben Jackey, Andy Alcock, Mike Petchenik, Steve Burgin and Ann Bowdan. From WHAS, there’s Joe Arnold, Gary Roedemeier, Doug Proffitt, Melanie Kahn and Andy Treinen. WAVE attracted nominations for Scott Harvey, Connie Leonard and Kent Taylor. WDRB’s Barry Bernson, Jennifer Baileys, Julie Tam and Valerie Chinn are included.

In addition to these on-air awards, there are nominations writers, directors, photographers and others.  KET received several nominations as well, including one for its Louisville Life series.

The winners will be announced July 25 in Lexington. You can take a look at the entire list at this website.

Darn. I thought sure 41 would get nominated for best on-camera non-interview (with Karen Sypher).

What !!! Some one left off Keith Kaiser for the Clown award. WDRB trades one clown Darin Adams for another.
