The big news from tonight’s Metro Council meeting will be the establishment of an e-transparency ordinance that creates an online “electronic checkbook” so that citizens can see where their money is going.
Created by Republicans Hal Heiner and Ken Fleming, other Council members have been jumping on as co-sponsors. The Metro IT department has been busy developing the program, and it will be available in some form online in a few months. The cost is about $60K, but beyond that there will be no additional monies involved, as the duty of updating the site is being incorporated into existing responsibilities for current personnel.
A second phase of the program, expected to be ready by the end of the year, will include details of all Metro contracts and other documents previously unavailable to citizens.
In other business, an ordinance calling for an anonymous tip line will read into the record for the first time and will go to the Oversight Committee. There’s plenty of momentum for establishing the service within the Council.

It’s about time something was put into place to stop those thives from making deals and using the taxpayers money without any oversight!
If they really want to make a statement as to confidence in the system & the City, the last Five years should be posted and any project that recieves money from the City should be subject to open records reporting . If something is funded with the taxpayers money then the taxpayers should be entitled to full disclosure , Tax returns, P&L statements , revenue statements, balance sheets….all of it!
