The hot rumor floating around Louisville political circles these days is that former Metro Councilcritter Julie Raque Adams is toying with a run for mayor of the state’s largest city.
How exciting would that be? She stands squarely in the middle, supported the library tax (we stood against it because it was a joke, but the idea was right, in theory), stood in support of the Fairness Ordinance.
She’s got political experience as an elected official. She knows what it means to represent a constituency– even when that constituency supports something she doesn’t. She has experience from the Hill. And she can raise crazy amounts of money.
With Jerry McCheese’s approval rating slowly tanking, anything is possible.
What’s your opinion?
Let’s discuss.

Finally, an electable candidate from the Republicans! — I know who I am supporting — I don’t agree with her on all issues, but finally a new perspective!! Go Julie Go!

One of several possibilities, but is she a real change agent? She is a centrist and that would cut deep into Mayor McCheese’s power base. She knows how to campaign and would decidedly carry the younger vote, but that’s not McCheese’s strength anyway. I for one would very much like to see Hal Heiner throw his hat in the ring. He would be a very strong change agent with excellent qualifications, but I fear his conservative Christian values and east end address place him too far to the right to beat McCheese in a county-wide race.

Sorry, but not even close. Julie started off with a lot of promise but rarely made any appearance or impact down at City Hall for the last 3 years of her tenure. Her constituents basically got to watch their grass grow in District 18. Not a good leader, just a follwer of her pal Ellen Call.

If you’re going to make accusations, back them up, please.

She has been on the scene for 3 years? I’ve never heard of her. That can’t be good!

Silly little Republican party! Louisville may have been caught “sleeping at the wheel” when they just elected a similar underqualified, over-financed young blonde…..but not in this race. Despite all his current political problems, the Republican party is going need someone a lot more capable than this political “Mc-lightweight” to take out Mayor McCheese! The idea of this upset is “Mc-laughable”!

I think Mayor McCheese has followed other leaders who stayed too long. We need some new energy. However, let’s elect someone on the basis of their ideas and views instead of mindlessly supporting someone because they are a member of one club or the other. The problems we face require deeper thinking than cheering for a sports team.

Louisville definitely needs somebody with fresh positive ideas who is also a lot more honest and transparent than Mayor Jer.
In 2010, anybody but Mayor Jer! (as long as he’s not running against a right-wing screwball)

I think calling him Mayor McCheese is really not funny. Really.
Stop it.

Who cares what party when you are talking about the Mayor of Louisville. We need someone competent and willing to challenge the old guard that has consistently looked out for their own interests and ignored everyone else. I don’t care if they are from the Whig party!

She does have good, but not great, political experience and a good reputation overall. However, she would not do well in the West End, Portland, or even SW Jefferson County. Her ability to generate money is an obvious plus, but not enough to offset the negitives. Sadly though, she may be the best local Republicans can come up with, which will simply be too little to take on “King” Jerry. I think the fact that she has generated the interest she has underscores the need to get rid Abramson. For that matter, we need to get rid of several spineless hacks on the Louisville Metro Soviet while we’re at it.
