The Martin Luther King, Jr. State Commission is set to hold its annual MLK celebration on Thursday, January 15 at the Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort. Events begin at 4:00 P.M. eastern.
Big names: Governor Steve Beshear, First Lady Jane Beshear, Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo, Dr. Harold Fenderson (KSU, keynote speaker) with entertainment provided by the Louisville Youth Performing Arts School choir.
The eighth annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Citizenship award will be given to the late Rev. Louis Coleman that afternoon. Middle school and high school winners of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest and Visual Art Contest will be awarded U.S. Savings Bonds, which can promptly be used as bird cage liners.
