Have a good weekend?
Columbus Complaint: I’ll go ahead and complain about Columbus Day, because the only people who get the day off are government workers and, for some reason, banks. So Columbus doesn’t really get his due for discovering America and all that. It’s sort of a faux-holiday. What Columbus needs is some sort of lobbying group to get upgraded to real holiday status, like they did for Martin Luther King, Jr. Anyway, don’t bother checking the mailbox today.
PRP Situation Drags On: I went to Manual’s win over PRP Friday night, and watching the PRP sideline, I was struck at how the coaching staff that’s under investigation after the death of a player at practice two months ago is still on the job. The LMPD and JCPS investigations are dragging on, yet there’s plenty of evidence that the coaching staff withheld water and that coaches told the team they would run until someone quit. Isn’t that enough reason to suspend the coaching staff immediately? Check out the C-J’s update of the story.
Religulous Story: I finally got out to see Bill Maher’s Religulous over the weekend. Maher’s point is that the only really smart response to the larger questions of life is. . . doubt. Sure, he pokes holes in a lot of religious theories and makes people uncomfortable by talking about it, but the premise of the movie is that blind faith is dumb. And it can be funny.
Info Center Review: PBS did a long interview with Gannett’s VP for Digital Content about how successful that concept is. The new concept is “write for online, update for print.” Here’s a link.
Chief Beef: Add the name Chief Michael ArhArhon Delisle Jr. of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake to the list of those bitching about Gov. Beshear’s attempt to claim gambling domain names. “This is a perfect example of someone who knows nothing about the effects of their actions,” said the chief, whose tribe licenses some of the domain names. They’re Canadians.
Thanks for the Fest Pics: We were happy to get some pics from the Belknap Festival up at the Loop. I rode my bike through Saturday morning, and it was hopping. I think I spotted a couple of politicians in this photo.
