Reprieve for JCPS Traditional 8th-Graders

October 2nd, 2008 by rick · 1 Comment

We told you that Jefferson County Public Schools has an overcrowding issue at Male High School, because every student who participates in traditional education programs wants to go there.

JCPS had planned to survey parents to help figure out a way to alleviate the problem next year, but now the plan has been delayed. That means nothing will change for current 8th-graders planning to attend Male that graduate from traditional middle schools this year.

Lauren Robers, JCPS spokeswoman, says there are plans to begin working on a new student-assignment plan for middle and high school students later this year that will address the issue at Male. She said parents will still be given an opportunity to have input in the new plan.

I have 2 children that go to Butler Traditional, freshman and a sophomore. To any parent with concerns they are recieving an excellent education. I think sports has a hand in the over crowding at Male. It is the best school to go to if you are an elite athlete and a good student and you don’t want to pay tuition for the education. Otherwise the difference between Butler and Male is minimal.
