Women’s Group Behind Wasted Ad Blitz

May 20th, 2008 by rick · No Comments

Last week, a Political Action Committee was formed in San Francisco by Hillary Clinton’s fund-raising chair for the Bay Area, Susie Tompkins Buell. She must be a hell of a fund-raiser.

In a couple of days, she’d raised more than $170,000 for WomenCount PAC, whose goal seems to be to purchase newspaper ads suggesting that Clinton is speaking for every woman in America, and that she should stay in the race. It appeared in the Courier-Journal, back of the front section, today and has appeared in many Oregon dailies and USA Today.

Headlined “not so fast…” the ad paints Clinton as “indefatigable” (incapable of being tired out) and suggests that she speaks for all women.

Here’s more:

“We know that when women vote, Democrats win. Now it is the responsibility of our party to hear our voices and count all of our votes. . . We want Hillary to stay in this race until every vote is cast, every vote is counted, and we know that our voices are heard.”

The ad’s an attention-getter, but it’s also a waste of money that comes way too late to help Hillary Clinton’s campaign. The hottest rumor in town is that Clinton will concede in Louisville tonight, as Barack Obama gets the majority of delegate votes he needs for the nomination.

To pile on the rumor mill, we’re hearing that Clinton’s communications team did in fact request that all national media outlets show up in Louisville tonight for a major announcement. There’s also rumblings from Obama’s campaign staff that they have met with Clinton staff over the past week to discuss a concession scenario. We’ll see.
